Anyone out there that has bought a house knows what an overwhelming experience it can be. If that purchase is your first, and your looking around the GTA the process can get taken to a whole other level. In a market where split second decisions are quickly becoming the norm, having the right real-estate team by your side can make the difference between heart-break and home ownership.

In late 2015 my Wife and I began the search for our first home. We knew little about the process and even less about how to make it all happen. Enter the Chestnut Park team and in particular, Sarah MacLean and Sue Collis. We met Sarah and Sue on our very first viewing and it quickly became apparent that this team was up to the challenge. With a limited budget, heightened expectations and a very specific style of home in mind, challenge may well have been an understatement.

Sue’s experience, coupled with Sarah’s eagerness to help us made for a professional and enjoyable experience in the months that followed. The listings flew our way, the viewings were lined-up and Sarah quickly took the reins, but there was something unique about how she did things. She was not trying to push us into a house, she was trying to help us find a home. She stood by our sides through every emotion we experienced, from excitement to anxiousness and in some cases even total frustration, but she kept the process on track.

As time wore on we began to wonder if the right place would ever line up and then in the blink of an eye our dream house, a hand-hewn log cabin from 1810 was listed. With an offer already pending on another home the complexity of the situation peeked and the next 30 hours would be by far the most nerve-racking of any we’d ever experienced. It was clear only lightning-fast decisions, experience and out of the box thinking could make this work and that’s exactly what Sarah and Sue delivered.

I’ll never forget the phone-call at 8:30 the following night, “Hi Rob, it’s Sarah, are you sitting down? The house is yours!!”

Retelling the story sends shivers down my spine even today and 3 months later when we wake up in our dream house, we both know it wouldn’t have happened without the guidance and professionalism from both Sarah and Sue. We would highly recommend the services of the Chestnut Park team, whether buying or selling.

As first time home buyers moving across the country, we were understandably nervous and a bit worried about how we would handle the process from a distance.

We shouldn’t have worried at all. Sue and Sarah did an excellent job for us. They were very flexible and accommodating: dealing with our time zone difference (3 hours), using FaceTime to bring us on house tours, climbing into awkward spaces to show us sizing relative to a person, visiting the same property multiple times to bring our local family and friends through, and patiently answering our flood of questions.

They made it all easy for us and several times got us in to see properties before they even made it onto MLS. When it came time to make an offer, they took time to walk us through the process and helped us minimize our bid.

We were very happy to work with them and would gladly do so again.

Mike and Andy - Guelph / June 2016
