Helpful Hints for Moving:

  1. Get change of address cards at the post office well before moving day
  2. Notify the Post Office for them to forward mail to the new address
  3. Notify all utility accounts for final building and/or setting up new accounts: -Water, -Electricity, -Gas, -Telephone, -Cell Phone, -Internet, -TV/Cable, -Security Monitoring, -Hot Water Tank/Softener Rental.
  4. Have meters read at old address and set up new Utility accounts to start on moving day (some need 30 day notification for changes for billing) 
  5. Call ahead for a new phone number allocation ( ,
  6. Register the children in the new school/ advise previous school for forwarding file(s)
  7. Cancel contracted services (lawn/garden care, snow removal, security system, TV/Cable/internet, HWT/softener/propane tank rental)
  8. Cancel pre-authorized cheque payments where applicable
  9. Change Driver’s license and Health card to new address
  10. Notify any other appropriate Government offices: Income Tax, Old Age Security, Veterans Affairs, CPP, EU, Family benefits
  11. Notify newspaper / magazine subscriptions
  12. Doctor, Dentist and other medical records,Veterinarian records may need to be copied or transferred
  13. Arrange for boarding of pets for moving day or have kennels /cages available so as not to have frightened pets running out of the house or smaller pets getting lost in boxes.
  14. Keep phone unpacked to plug into new location when you arrive.
  15. Transfer Bank Accounts/ Credit cards
  16. Notify Insurance companies: Health, Life, Auto, Home Owner's
